    Extended Warranty
    « on: 2016-02-08 13:13:55 »
    Hi Folks,
I have just done a deal on a new RT and that involved trading in my 2011 K1600 GT LE. The dealer needed to take the bike into the workshop to do a thorough assessment. I was surprised at the amount of remedial work  required to bring the bike up to a marketable state, at just 14700 miles all the steering joints required replacement, the instrument cluster, the radiator and the cruise control. I have the BMW extended warranty and the cost of all this work is being met by the policy. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The bike is a heavy and complicated machine and needs to be kept in good shape to achieve it's great potential. I have enjoyed my GTL, it is probably the worlds best touring motorcycle. I hope the slightly less complicated RT will serve me as well.

My dealer warranty is up for renewal on my K16GT  in March and will be renewing without question.

My warranty is also up at the end of March and I will also be taking out an extended one. These bikes are too complex and expensive to repair.

Just been told by my dealer that the front wheel bearings are wearing and need replacing.
Apparently this is wear and tear not failure and so is not covered by the extended warranty (2013 model)
Any views on whether it's worth challenging this?
          Cost about £110 otherwise.

Money well spent especially if you include the breakdown recovery package. Chose to pay mine monthly.

                  21,000 miles.

25000 miles on mine, no suggestion of a similar issue. If it's wear and tear then wouldn't it form part of the service schedule  with a recommendation to change at xxx miles ?

Have just taken out the extended warranty with breakdown recovery package, also chose to go down the monthly route, £37 per month. Been a expensive Month, service, tyre, insurance, road tax and a impending speeding fine. Still worth every penny.

                            Work all completed satisfactorily.
As expected not covered under the warranty as deemed wear and tear not failure.
Also repair bill was only £90 which is below the £100 excess anyway. £20 discount for being a BMW club member.
