Just about to buy a K1600!
    « on: 2016-04-24 13:09:06 »

Hello all. Have just put down a deposit on a Motorrad used bike (2013 low mileage GT SE with the usual comfort pack and audio/gps prep, also a new Nav V thrown in). Migrating up from my previous sports tourer (GTR1400 - sore hips) and Triumph Explorer (never quite gelled with me).

The great majority of recent (up to 3 years or so) 2nd hand K1600's are dealer sold. Now, I know I'm getting a fully prepared bike, a (now 2 year) BMW warranty (this must be worth a fair bit),a few glitches being sorted out by the dealer (new front tyre, etc.) and of course the comfort of knowing it is a kosher bike and the dealer knows its previous owners and history / service record.

I just have the usual 'what if I'm overpaying?' feeling!

I would be happy to pay 1000-1250 more than a 'fair value' private sale price to buy from the dealer. But not much more than this...

If this isn't the right forum or place for this discussion my apologies, but I wondered what people would think a private sale of the bike described above would go for?

    Cheers

      Hi mate,

I think you got  a great deal there.  I was at my dealer the other day and they are gutted that BMW have provided a 2 year warranty on used bikes as it will drastically hit them when selling new bikes with the same warranty period.  If I hadn't bought new before the offer, I may well have bought used with the 2 year warranty and would prefer to use a dealer just for that reason.

      Cheers Jim

Hi Jim, appreciate your thoughts. Hadn't' occurred to me re the impact on new bikes sales. Must be a factor. And it is a warranty on the bike, not the owner, so it's useful to be able - if I sell, in say a year, to tell a potential owner that it still has a one year warranty.

        Hopefully won't be selling though!

On my 2nd K1600 and just back from southern Spain, I pity other riders not on K16's, the agony they must endure to cover long miles when we are sitting comfy with everything at out fingertips.

Still sounds like a good deal, especially with the 2 year warranty, enjoy.
