    Nav v and phone data
    « on: 2016-04-27 11:13:00 »
Waiting on my nav v to be delivered. In the mean time was reading the instructions. It says to receive traffic announcements you need to pair your phone with the device to gain up to date traffic problems and this will use data. Just wondering if this uses a lot of data and the phone link is neccessry

Yes, phone link is necessary for traffic data. No-ish, it doesn't use a lot of date, but it does connect regularly to a server and check for the newest updates, so some data is transmitted. When you're travelling abroad and use roaming, it might have a cost impact.
It doesn't have to make sense. It's ok if it's just fun :-)

You have to pay a fee to get the smart link going. I don't think the traffic info is very up to date, not i.e. like with Waze. I get messages all the time telling me there is a problem ahead of me, or even at the exact place I'm riding, which isn't there.
I think Waze or even Tom Tom do a better job than Garmin.

Thanks guys. Got it set up last night. The smartlink paired ok and seems free.
I fitted the nav to the bike. There seems a bit of a gap between the plastic cowl and the face of the nav. Just wondering if that was normal.
            Thanks

In my case the gap is very small (I could probably fit a toothpick in between, not more). It should not touch, otherwise you may experience rattling noise due to the vibrations)

Just to make sure. Do you have the bezel for the Nav V? That's different from the bezel for the Nav IV as the V is a bit bigger.

It's only three weeks old so hoping it was for the five

If it's a brand new bike you should be OK.
