hi no doubt you have lots about ball joints on the k1600
    mine failed at 5000 miles
and lots have been reported 8-1200 miles I know bmw are replacing under warrantee
but my point is this part is from the old k1200 /1300 that uses the same parts a lot lighter bike without needing replacing till later in life if it failed at 28000 I can under stand this but low mileage ????
I was hopping to get a lot of k1600 owners to meet up at the next bike show in London 2017to get some awsers from bmw it is not unrealistic to expect this part to last longer than 6mts
I am a engineer if you build a bridge then increce  the lode x2 it will fail ( a k1200gt from 2006) is a lot lighter than a k1600 ;D
and the braking on a 1600 a lot beater to
HOPE TO SE SOME OF YOU THEN STEVE

Good luck with that Steve, but the only people at the show will be the sales and marketing people.

2011 bike. About 55000 kms now and nothing replaced so far (apart from switch clusters after 4.5 years and that was for free during a service).

Just over 31,000 miles and 3 years. Only issue has been front wheel bearings. (Just outside of warranty).

Just over 1 yr old and LH switch cluster (surprise, surprise) replaced under warranty and going in on Wednesday for front forks to be replaced (very slight corrosion above where axle goes through) and to replace a seal on the water pump drive where a slight oil mist is evident, all under warranty. :(
