    Good Afternoon, introducing myself.
    « on: 2017-03-05 18:59:32 »
    Hello everyone,
Having just purchased my first K1600GT and joined this forum I thought it would be polite to introduce myself. The bike is a 2011 GT SE version in Vermillion Red with all the gongs, whistles and trumpets with the exception of top case and satnav, I bought it from a UK BMW dealership and it came with the standard BMW 2 year warranty and breakdown cover. I live near Malaga in Spain, though work for a UK based company as a class 1 truck driver in live music and event logistics throughout the whole of Europe. The K16 is my second bike in less than a year, the first was a K1200GT which was my reintroduction to biking after far too many years away due to what are probably all too familiar reasons to most people.

Prior to the K12, my previous bike was a K100RS in the very early nineties, and before that I had the usual mix of Japanese and sadly unreliable British bikes. To say that I am out of touch with modern bikes including BMWs would be an understatement, so I have a head full of questions about the K16. At present I am working my way through the forum and finding a number of answers to questions, but it does seem as though for every question answered another is raised, so please bear with me if I ask something which is common knowledge amongst the more enlightened board members. Thanks!

Welcome, I am sure you will like your new purchase. Two year warranty is worth its weight in gold as these bikes are expensive to repair should anything go wrong.

            Welcome from the USA!
Enjoy your GT...its the perfect motorcycle.
I have visited Malaga way back in the early 70's when it was a quaint village.

Thank you for your warm welcome and a picture of the bike (if I can work out how to upload it!). Malaga is no longer a village Im afraid but a bustling modern city. Santa Ponsa...is that Mallorca?

Im looking for crash bars at the moment but am not entirely sure which to buy nor how they are fitted or how easy/difficult they are to fit. I want a set of HID LEDs on the bars too. Again not certain which or how to fit them...i certainly dont want to invalidate the warranty in any way.

bmw crash bars are a 5min job but not cheep I have had 2 bikes go over with just slight damage
as for the lights this bike is a cambus controlled wiring I have never had to fit them as my bikes came with them fitted some one on this site might of fitted after market lights but like you say bike is under warranty
just looking at your bike it looks like it had bars before
this is one of my bikes on its side with bars

Welcome from a fen in south Lincolnshire 👍😃

I purchased my GT Sport second hand and it came fitted with these bars....... which work. But after seeing Steve's photo picked up a pair of these 👍

                          Hi Bacalao

I have fitted a pair of led lights on my engine bars. I powered them through an auxiliary fuse panel fed directly off the battery, with the trigger wire from the switch tapped into the fairing socket power feed. This gets around all the canbus issues.

                            Hi Bacalao,
Welcome, first thing I fitted to my K16 was a full set of protection bars followed by radiator and oil cooler guards, headlight guard. Whilst I don't consider myself protectionist I hate paying out on damage that is avoidable. Enjoy the bike

I certainly think engine bars are going on though im less than enamoured by the look of the pannier bars to be honest. My headlight has had ventureshield fitted by the previous owner so I will pin my hopes on that, but an oii cooler and rad guard are on the list of to fits.

the one on the bike works ok
the amount of owners have fitted them and then removed them 5min later (works ok if you live in Oz )
