    SWITCH SURVEY
    « on: 2013-07-22 12:00:31 »
Since the launch of the 1600 one of the most common complaints after the gearbox seems to be failing switches.  I myself have had the left one changed twice and recently the right one.  We have all been led to believe that BMW have solved this problem and I know that the part numbers have changed which suggest so have the switches.  My last left one was replaced in July 2012 and so far has not gone wrong. The right one was only changed for the original one last month.
How many of you have had replacement switches fitted since August 2012 that have failed again or have a 2013 model that has failed or is BMW telling the truth?

My bike was registered in April 2012 and so far I have not had any issues with the switches.

Mine was registered in June 2012.  No issues with switches.

My previous 2010 RT has the left switch changed twice and the right one once (I think)

I have one of the earlier ones from March 2011. Not a single problem so far, switches or otherwise.

My right switched failed 3 weeks ago on my trip in Slovenia and was replaced there. The left switch is being replaced as we speak at the dealership... Bike is 2yo and has 27000km.

20.000km since November 2011. No switches replaced so far... only the leaking water pump at 12.000km.

Last Saturday 20.000km, brake fluid cover was replaced under warranty : due to small leak the paint peeled off. Fluid was still at max level.

My left switches have been replaced in the past (cruise control and direction indicator fault). Next maintenance the left switch will be replaced again (no horn).

Since last month I have a problem with the cruise control switch. I still can set a certain speed, but can't resume the last set speed.

Last week I went to my dealer to get it fixed, but as I have a GT with production date of 2011-09-21 they had no replacement in stock.

In a few weeks my bike will have it's 20k-service. The replacement should be in by then.

K16GT 2012 April. No problems so far. (previous 13GT was a joke with 7 switches replaced and indicators failed on way to hand over bike for trade in)

1600 GTL - April 2011.  LH switch changed in May due to high beam fault, RH just failed and currently awaiting new for failed Kill/Start and central locking.  Hope the new one lasts a lot longer!

I have a 12 plate GT, and have had the left hand switch cluster changed due to failure of the cruise control and wind shield.

Why is the production date relevant? Aren't they all the same? They sure look the same. Or are they different inside?
