    Passenger peg lowering kit?
    « on: 2014-04-30 20:36:01 »
I have a K1600GTLE which is the best bike I have ever owned.Purchased Sept 2011.
Unfortunaely the boss has developed a hip problem and after about an hour of travelling I have to pull over so she can have a rest.
She says it's becuase her knees are too high up and it would be better if the pegs were lower.
Have looked and looked but cannot find a solution on the net.
Does anyone know of such a kit being made for the K1600GTL.
Thanks in advance for any replied. ;D

You might want to check these. Maybe there are others as well. I have no experience with them though.

        Thanks for the link Frank..
Looks as though the boards would work, although they only lowere the foot height by 3/4".
Must admit I am prepared to try almost anything. I enjoy having boss on the bike with me which may not continue if I keep the K1600.
I have emailed them for the shipping charges to UK and possible import duty which they sugget to do before placing an order.

Thats great, I had spent weeks searching and you have come up with 2 links almost as soon as I posted the request.
Have now emailed them both for costs. Think I prefer those of the second link but SWMBO will have the final say, of course.

            Thanks again

They have both, lowering and raising kits for passenger:
              https://www.suburban-machinery.com/K1600GTLpass.html

I used their driver lowering kits on my LT and ordered new ones for my current K1600GT as well.

Well, 5 days after emailing them for full costs including shipping to UK, no reply received from this supplier, link provided by Frank.
Reluctant to just order them and hope all goes well.

This looked the better kit for my requirements but alas, no reply to email requesting estimate of shipping costs to UK, after 5 days.

                          Certainly will.
Hoping they arrive within the next 9 days as I am away in Hong Kong after that for a 2 week reunion meeting.
Its like Christmas all over again, can't wait. ;D

Have received the lowering kit from this company in Germany

MV Lowered / Adjustable Passenger Footrest for BMW K1600GT/GTL 40 mm lower - MV Motorrad-Technik GmbH - special high-quality accessories for motorcycles

Great product, well finished. Took 4 days to be delivered to UK.

Have now fitted them to the bike but unable to get the Boss to try them out due to the foul weather at the moment.

When fitting the foot pegs to the lowering kit the triangular spacer sheets and ball bearing are re used. You need two pairs of hands to hold the pegs in position whilst compressing the spring, ball bearing and spacers to insert the retaining pin. Not easy.
Unfortunately the sheet metal spacers are larger than the new lowering kit housing and when the footpeg is in the closed position the point of each sheet spacer is protruding.
Will have to file them down when I have time.
Otherwise a great piece of kit and would not hesitate to order again.

There would have been arguemenst if the Boss helped. After an hour of tryng myself I called my son who came accross and helped and it was sorted in 10 minutes.  ;D
