    Insurance Renewal Time - Ouch!!!!
    « on: 2014-07-15 13:36:24 »
I just received my renewal from Ebike. Last year I paid £340 to cover my GT-SE and 1200GSA. This year they want £510 to cover my GT and Honda Crosstourer!!! They are also charging an extra £50 for UK breakdown cover, something which was included in last years premium!!!

I've had a good look around and it seems the premiums have increased dramatically across the board since last year. No doubt having 2 bikes for less than a year which are both under a year old doesn't help, but still a bit of a shock. Aunty Carole finally sorted me out for £470 with the added bonus of UK and Europe breakdown cover, but her initial quote was £550.

That's a big increase but still not too bad. I pay € 850 (about £ 675) for just the GT and that is with maximum no claim bonus.

Why are rates so high in NL Frank?

I don't know actually. They just are.  There are several companies that won't even insure a bike that costs over € 20.000. Some have the limit at € 25000 but that's still less than a K1600 costs over here. Mine is insured with BMW which was by far the cheapest.  Most quotes I got (if at all) were way over € 1000. BTW the insurance I have is all risk.

Don't complain. I pay slightly over €1000.- p.a. in Switzerland for full risk coverage (lowest claim bonus) - about the same as for my car. Add traffic tax (€200) and autobahn (highway) sticker (€32) - it's an expensive hobby.
But then: a friend of mine owns a small airplane, it's his passion and hobby - compared to him, I'm getting away very cheap  :o . It's all relative.
But I definitely have more fun than losing the money in stock trading  ;D
It doesn't have to make sense. It's ok if it's just fun :-)

When I purchased the Exclusive I could not get anyone to insure it other than BMW who have taken just shy of £600 fully comp + £80 for my little SV 650, I was with E Bike for years & got my renewal for my GTLE & the SV £380 combined, the reason every one gave me for not insuring the Exclusive was the price, anything over £20,000 was really a no go. Hope next year that other companies will take the bike on as it's value should be below the £20,000 figure giving competition

In my area SW USA 2012 K16 full coverage insurance is only $240 usd per year.  I have a perfect (knock on wood) driving record for over 50 years
