    Wind defectors locked?
    « on: 2014-09-22 02:11:52 »
Do the wind deflectors have a lock on them?  I just bought a used 2012 GTL and the wind deflectors appear to be locked. I can't get them to swing open and doubt the detent could be that hard to overcome... Thx

They can get very stiff and too much pulling can snap them off.  Try squirting something like WD40 on the hinges and them gently wiggle them.

There should be some friction otherwise they would go open spontaneously during a ride.
If they have never been used by the previous owner, they may have become stuck. Nothing a bit of WD40 won't cure.
You might want to check with a fellow K1600 rider to see how much (or little) force is needed.

I would not use WD-40 but a Spray Silicone mead by 3M.  WD40 might damage the rubber grommets.  Rubber loves Silicone and makes it last 1000% longer as well as lubricates it

Don't think there is any rubber. Just a bid spring on a lug.

This may be a silly question; but are you sure that you are trying to open them from the right sides? There is only miminal resistance to overcome.
