    Need to get out
    « on: 2015-01-20 15:00:46 »
Getting a bit fed up now not being able to get a ride in on my bikes. Snow and ice plus the dreaded road salt. It's been a long time since I have throne my leg over a bike (September last) at the start it was because of work, then before I knew it the salt was upon me now it's snow, ice and salt, cold and bad weather I can take but just can't bring myself to subject my bikes to road salt. Think I now have SAD the winter disease. Roll on spring……

Same here, heading your way for four days in Pitlochry in April, then ten days in Europe August.  Plus as many other weekends and week nights we can get fitted in.

Compared to last year, this one is not as good biking wise. But hey ho, some of us brave it and get out. Was out today for few hours. Air temp was zero to three degrees and wind chill much lower. The Wunderlich hand guards work really good to keep wind off hands and I keep feet tucked in close to pick up engine heat. So not too bad if you wrap up well and whereas nowhere near as nice as summer I personally couldnt stand to not ride for several months. As for salt just rinse bike after every ride and wash once a week.

I am lucky to have a Honda Blackbird 1100XX for commuting in Dublin.  And we have had no frost/ice this part of the country so I have been using the bike every day, even the stormy ones! (can't deal with public transport!). The Honda is easy to wash too - about 10 minutes does it. But I find the K1600 takes ages to wash as there are so many "nooks and crannies". Anyone else think so??
But I was missing the power of the big K1600 (and the heated grips and saddle of course) so a group of us managed to get out for a quick spin and breakfast last Saturday. It was cold okay and the low winter sun was blinding at times but we really enjoyed it.
Roll on another good summer like we had last year and 2013 and looking forward to weekend spins with the Group.

Also have other bikes that were suppose to be winter hacks, have a FJR & a SV650S Sport but just can't bring myself to use them on salted roads. The SV IS A 2008 model and has only got 4000 miles on the clock and is like it's just left the showroom, the FJR on the other hand is a 2002 with about 50000 on the clock even so no salt for the old girl. Am afraid to say the car wins in the winter as I don't car to much about it.

David McK, you will enjoy your stay up here, if you have not been before take a run out to the west towards Oban or Glencoe, you will love it, have a stop at the Green Welly for a bacon roll, might even see you there.

                  Hey Jim,
Plenty of salt on them bacon rolls !  :)
A couple of lads in our Group are travelling over to Scotland this summer too. Hope they get some sunshine.  Must tell them about that route and food stop.

Ha Ha. You're dead right there. One thing I don't attempt is snow and ice and have both today

Saw a tiny bit of sun today on my ride out to Tintern Abbey up the Wye valley.

Must've been some sort of web marshall blocking those photos - no problem on my home PC.  Great photos okay. Looks like you got one of the few good days in January.
