Got the big girl back this morning, ball joints having been replaced twice, the dealer (Douglas Park Motorrad) told me that 2 K1600s mine being one of them were in at the same time for the same problems and that they have raised a Puma. Oh and was not charged anything for any of the work carried out.

Not had a chance to give her a run out yet but planning a good run tomorrow (Sunday) when I will see if the ball joint replacement has fixed the problem.

well having told you to get your checked it just goes to show the ball joint is not up to its job
my 16 plate k1600gtse went in for a service to day with 4700 miles on the clock
I keep my bike clean and over service them having had 4 now just love the bikes
      and guess what
1 has to have new ball joint a lot of play
      2 new front forks corrosion
3 may be a new engine as it has started to smoke on 1st start up /and some small amount of corrosion
so bmw are raising puma >:(
thanks to my dealer I would be none the wiser
I think some thing has to be done ?????????steve

Well managed to put some miles in on Sunday, bike still making the same knocking/ klunk when going over a rough bit of road. Got to say I am not to impressed at the moment. Have not had any word from dealer re puma, if I have the time I will take a run over to them and let them know it's still the same as when it was reported to them.

Take a look in the k1600forum.com, do a search for lithium battery.  Sounds like they had the same issue your describing " hot start "

Thanks, have seen that post. Don't think that is the issue as this is my second K1600 and both have had the issue since new.

Bike was in today for a service &MOT, guess what play in the ball joints again, so another set are being fitted this week under extended warranty. Tech telling me it’s about £900 UK for joints and fitting 😱 also saying it’s the weight of the bike that’s responsible for premature wear 😳 surely the parts are not fit for purpose if that’s the case.

hi jim this has been a long argument with bmw I am on my 5th k1600gt
the front suspension is from the k1200gt 06 on
it still uses the same ball joints and forks
I live in the south of England
and sill I have had 2 sets of forks
and one bike only did 4000 miles before it needed new joins it was picked up on a service
it was that bad they would not let my ride the bike
I was hoping when the updated k came out it would be fixed
                  who was I kidding >:(
