    Hello from Texas
    « on: 2016-11-30 02:43:46 »
Hi, I'm planning to get a K1600GT before the year ends. I'm totally new to it so I'm worried about the maintenance, also I would love to know how many years will it last? I currently have a ducati which I had 3 years ago. Any insights would be appreciated.

      Welcome to the forum.
What exactly is worrying you about the maintenance?
As for how long the bike will last: I guess the model is too new to say anything about that. I only know my bike is one of the first made (manufactured in Feb 2011) and I'm still riding trouble free. I know in the USA there are several people who have done way over 100,000 miles

As far as maintenance is concerned is a service every 6000 miles. Cost around the £250:00 GBP mark with the 18000 mile service can cost around £500:00 - £600:00 GBP. Original parts are quite expensive.

Should be good for 150,000 plus miles but still a real unknown just yet

Typycial problems with K1600 which coast a lot.
          1. Front suspension ball joints free play - need to change for new.
          2. Somtimes problems with water pump - leaking. Solution is to buy new one
          3. Rear Shock ESA after 5,6 year can start to leak and finish elastomer inside. Cost of the rear shock about 2000 dollars.
          4. Sometimes problem withe left steering console. Need to change for new.
          5. Couple of people have a problem with transsmision. Need to replace. I didn't notice that problem. I have my second GTL. Last one had about 30.000miles on it. Clutch and transm was fine. But front suspension and rear shock where bad :(
