    Upgrade 2012 instruments panel
    « on: 2018-02-10 10:23:41 »
Hi - does anyone know how to upgrade the software on the 2012 model so that I can display the digital speedo on the instrument panel?

I know from youtube that later models have the facility as part of the menu function but the 2012 model does not.

    Thanks in advance.

Dealer needs to do it. It’s not just a neutral light change of colour but a re-map to fix possible piston damage I believe.

Digital speedo on a '12 model is not possible.
Apparently that needs more than just a software update.

My last update the neutral whet to green and it is larger...I Think.  BMW dealer had to do it.  Mine is a 2012

The update that included the "green N" dates back to early 2013.
There have been updates since then but they can't be seen (unless you dig in the bike's board computer).

Thanks everyone for your suggestions - looks like I will stick to Nav IV digital speedo which is about 2mph less accurate then main speedo.

Actually, the GPS speed indicator is more accurate because it uses Doppler effect telemetry via satellite.

Joe - thanks. There is a “lag” with the satnav speedo so I approximate “between” the two speedos, which I should not do...

Yes there may be mild lag in the Sat Nav, but it is by far and away the more accurate of the two. The bike speedo runs of the engine, and uses many assumptions from the back of the bike. For example, just putting a fresh tyre on your bike from and old worn one, will give you more speed per RPM, a difference that your speedo wont pick up.

The sat nav on the other hand will use more accurate triangulation of your position using satellites. Regardless of your bikes condition, that triangulation calculation wont change.

My bike speedo will read 72, while the sat nav will read 70. So I will set my cruise control to the satnav.

                        ...

Thanks - that’s reassuring. I will stick to Satnav mileage reading.
